Grey Matters!

Hey, YOU, yeah, you 19 year old with the dyed "grey is the new blond" hair.
Dye it back to your own damn color!
You haven't earned the right to be grey.

My older sisters and I. Well let me tell you what earned us the right:
We were the generation of women who endured the “Enjoli” commercial:" I can bring home the bacon. Fry it up in a pan, and never, never, never let you forget you’re a man" (Which absolutely destroyed the 1960’s song by Peggy Lee)
Worked hard, raised kids, exercised because our wandering husbands eyes required that. We were paid 30% less for doing 30% more work, got 4 weeks paid maternity leave and you better never call out because your kids get sick... or they'll view you as a “mother" and no longer a V.P. You see, man can't walk and chew gum at the same time so how in HELL could we women be effective in the workplace AND raise kids AND be someone's other half?????!!! and don't forget to run to the gym on your less than 60 minutes lunch, if you dare take it, to workout at the nearest gym and pump your breasts to take home, and yep go find a day care center in a 20 mile radius, back then, that would even KEEP the kid there past 5 pm!
Hell, the generation before us stayed home day care wasn't even "invented" then. Throw dinner parties with 72 hour notice for your hubby's boss and coworkers do homework at 10 at night because your kids forgot. Try to have sex once a month, not for your sake, but for his. Hell you can't relax and enjoy it anyway, because you have to figure out how to get little Evan to stop crying every time he sees the damn cat and how are you going to negotiate that half a million dollar deal with your client by tomorrow when there is no wiggle room in the price you quoted him??!!!
Watch the years pass the hard earned promotions at what cost... the marriage disintegrate, the grown up kids (who you sent to the best colleges, who now have few job opportunities because you still have to work because there are no pensions and what you did have blew up in the crash.) Somehow, your kids still adore you...they think you’re a rock... your hubby and you are divorced like the rest of the world but you’re civil and you are on every dating site there is if for nothing else but for the entertainment. You see we earned that gray hair. We are right now cutting Clairol out of the budget. We are trying to give up the way too late way too much wine habit for spinach and beet juice. Because we need to live at least 30 more healthy years because the last 30 went by like a speeding silver bullet. So dye your hair back, you "pretty young things"...

Enjoy your youth. Make time for love life laughter and the sheer joy of being unstoppable...don't let a job sabotage your life, don’t try to live other peoples dreams. Be the square peg in the round hole. OWN your power...and as Rumi quoted "let the thing that you love be the thing that you do". And for God’s sake. .. When you see me walking down the street. Tell me I look fabulous in my gray hair...HELL YEA!!! I earned it. NOW go out and earn your own!
